attacks my depths everyday

widening its cage of absence

creeps up in the dampness
beneath the window
where the sun's rays
multiply every morning

I look into the day
at gardens of the past
fragrant and mellow
at the thorns of the present
at a budding spectre of neglect

your fist tightens
every hour
tying bows on presents
strings on parcels
drumming meaning
into pleasant nothingness

yet your insidious overtures
match mine in rythm
seperated by the doors, windows
ceilings, furniture, walls

Your face is just a memory now
your body inhabits our space
we toss and turn in
wide eyed slumber
the creases now visible
on the sheets

the winter seeps in through
chinks in the wood
in the floorboards
the steely surfaces
of still, varnished tabletops.

croak and whisper from the walls

I turn to look
at your facade
